Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, Pa.) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs, in partnership with the United Way and the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley (CACLV), are asking fans for their financial support of the Allentown Family Fund which allows immediate direct assistance to victims of the February 9 gas explosion.
"The entire IronPigs organization was deeply saddened by the tragic events of February 9th and we have made it a priority to assist all of those that have been impacted," remarked IronPigs General Manager Kurt Landes. "Today we are excited to launch our 'Piggy Bank' program with 100% of the proceeds going directly into the Allentown Family Fund to assist those in need."
Through Sunday, fans can make a piggy bank donation at the Majestic Clubhouse Store located at Coca-Cola Park in $1, $5 and $10 increments. Donations can also be made this weekend at Coca-Cola Park when single-game tickets are put on sale during the club's annual National Pig Day festivities. Each contribution will be noted with the contributor's name on a piggy bank shaped cutout that will be displayed inside the Majestic Clubhouse Store.
The IronPigs will also be holding a National Pig Day raffle featuring an IronPigs fan experience and many other terrific prizes with all of the proceeds benefiting the Allentown Family Fund.
The IronPigs also announced today that they will make an undisclosed monetary contribution to the Allentown Family Fund.
100% of the funds donated will benefit those affected by the February 9 gas explosion. In partnership with Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley, United Way's Allentown Family Fund can now provide direct assistance to families in need.
CACLV will canvas the neighborhood surrounding the explosion site to determine residents' needs and assess the level of assistance each family will receive based on the funds raised. CACLV will work with the family to address its most pressing needs. Direct support could include vouchers to purchase goods or services and replace or repair lost items. CACLV ensures that there is proper accountability to reassure donors that their donations are being used in the most responsible way.
Donations to the fund can also be invested through the programs and services of the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley's many partner agencies to assist explosion victims as they get back on track and rebuild their lives. Funds donated can specifically be put toward assisting them with long-term basic needs such as rebuilding their households, counseling services for family members, and educational services for children.
In addition to Coca-Cola Park, donations can also be made online at www.unitedwayglv.org, or mailed or dropped off to United Way offices at 2200 Avenue A, 3rd Floor, Bethlehem, PA 18017. Checks should be made payable to "United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley." Indicate "AFF" (Allentown Family Fund) in the memo. Should donors wish to designate further, indicate either "Direct Support" or "Program Support" in the memo.
The mission of the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley is to provide the leadership, convene the partnerships, and develop the resources and solutions that improve our community. Each year, more than 60,000 people in need benefit from the more than 80 programs and services supported by the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley. United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley works tirelessly to ensure that children succeed in school, families are self-sufficient, and older adults thrive in our community.
