(Butler, PA)- The Ironmen's game at Pullman Park was delayed 30 minutes thanks to a water main break. The Ironmen showed no effects of the delay as they came out and jumped all over Butler starter, Pete Slavonic scoring four runs in the third inning on their way to a 7-4 victory.
Kevin Hughes (2-0) started and picked up his second of the season. Hughes went 5.1 innings allowing six hits, three runs all earned; he walked three and struck out four.
Lorain County's offense was led by Sam Alvis. Alvis was 2-5 with a triple, double, two runs and an RBI.
Mike Burke got the scoring started in the third inning when he singled to bring in Nate Tomaszewski who led off the inning with a double off the wall in right field. Alvis then followed with an RBI triple sending Burke to the plate with the second run. Zak Blair then connected on his first homerun of the season. A two run blast to right field. Blair was also walked three times tonight.
Shane Sullivan came on in relief of Hughes in the sixth inning. He went 2.2 innings only allowing one run, a solo homerun to Shayne Houck, the second of the game for Houck. Sullivan also struck out two. Alvis then moved in from left field and pitched a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the season. The Ironmen return to the Pipe Yard Saturday night when they host Slippery Rock at 7:05. It's Cedar Point Saturday Night. Snoopy will be throwing out the first pitch. Cedar Point and the Ironmen will be giving away free tickets to the park as well as a special VIP package. It is also Lorain Youth Baseball night. The Ironmen will be recognizing all LYB players and coaches as well as past presidents of the league.
