Lorain County Ironmen News Release
(Beckley, WV)- The Lorain County Ironmen have had one of the top pitching staffs in the Prospect League this year. Tonight the league's 4th rated staff proved why. Sean Blackburn led the way; pitching 6 scoreless innings while leading the Ironmen to a 2-0 win over the West Virginia Miners.
Blackburn went 6 innings only allowing 2 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4. Shane Sullivan relieved Blackburn in the 7th after walking the first two hitters of the inning. Sullivan promptly got 3 outs to strand the runners. Spencer Bryant then threw a scoreless 8th inning with 2 strikeouts. Cameron Palmer then recorded his league leading 6th save by throwing a scoreless 9th.
The Prospect League's top offense was at it again, pounding out 8 hits. Michael Burke led the way going 4-5 with a double and three singles. Sam Alvis and Steel Russell both drove in runs to plate the only two runs of the ballgame.
The win moves the Ironmen to within 3 games behind the Miners for first place in the Eastern Division. It was also the first home loss for the Miners and the first time they have been shutout this season. The two teams will be at it again Friday night at 7:05 from Beckley, WV.
