Bombers Defeat Terre Haute Again, 7-1 - Father's Day Re-Do Saturday

June 24, 2011 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release

The Dubois County Bombers defeated the Terre Haute Rex for the second straight game Friday night by a score of 7-1.

It was tied 1-1 until the sixth inning, when the Bombers plated three runs in back-to-back innings.

The Bombers only managed four hits, but their aggressive baserunning combined with Terre Haute's seven errors led to their eighth victory of the season.

Ryan Billo (1-2) got his third start and his first win Friday.

He started off shaky but got out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning, only allowing one run.

After that, Billo (Univ. of Evansville) settled in and threw a season high 6 1/3 innings without allowing another Terre Haute run.

Once again, the Bombers took advantage of walks and hit batters.

Designated hitter Brian Norwood (Lewis Univ.) walked twice, was hit by a pitch once, and stole three bases.

Aric Marquardt (St. Joseph's College), who donned the cover of Friday's program, had a game worthy of that honor.

He finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

The game turned ugly in the seventh, when Rex pitcher Brandon Dorsett struggled with his control.

He faced seven batters and hit three of them with a pitch, and nearly hit another.

The umpire then warned Dorsett and the Rex bench.

After some words between teams, a pitching substitution was made, the inning ended, and the animosity appeared to be over.

However, in the eighth inning, new Terre Haute pitcher Darrin Vestring ran a pitch too far inside and hit Bombers catcher Ryan Chesler in the back.

It didn't seem to be on purpose, but nonetheless Vestring was ejected.

After some mild arguing from Terre Haute Manager Brian Dorsett, the game calmed down and the Bombers took the victory 7-1 to move to 8-9 on the season.

Terre Haute drops to 10-11.

The Bombers will be at home again Saturday, June 25, trying to win their third game in a row.

The division-leading Quincy Gems will come to town after being defeated by the DeKalb County Liners on Friday.

Dubois County is 0-2 against Quincy so far this season, but both games were at Quincy.

It will be a Father's Day Re-Do at League Stadium, as last Sunday's game was rained-out.

All dads will get in FREE and Dad's Root Beer Floats are just $2.00!
