Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Aberdeen, MD- Anthony Martinez drove in two runs and Zach Clark extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 13 as the Aberdeen IronBirds won its season-high fourth straight, 5-2 over Williamsport on Thursday night.

Martinez went 2-for-3 with two RBI. His single to left in the third inning drove in Matt Angle for the go-ahead run.

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jon Leicester-on a rehab assignment-made the start for Aberdeen. Leicester gave up two runs on four hits in two innings before leaving due to a strict pitch count. He struck out two and walked none.

Zach Clark, Thursday's regularly scheduled starter, earned the win in relief of Leicester. Clark (3-1) tossed six shutout innings to extend his scoreless innings streak to 13 dating back to his previous outing of six scoreless innings at Hudson Valley on July 6.

The Crosscutters took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Mike Durant doubled to left to score Freddy Galvis and Tyler Mach.

Aberdeen tied it in the bottom of the first when Martinez hit an RBI single and Jedidiah Stephen ripped an RBI double.

After Martinez's single made it 3-2 in the third, Aberdeen added two insurance runs in the fifth. Joe Nowicki hit a sac fly to right to score Angle. Two batters later, Wally Crancer hit a bloop single to left which fell between the left fielder, shortstop and third baseman and drove in Aberdeen's fifth run of the game.

Angle went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two steals. Angle now has 11 stolen bases-second in the league-and is rapidly closing on the IronBirds single season record of 20 steals, set by Jarod Rine in 2003.

Game Notes- Aberdeen second baseman Ryan Adams left the game in the sixth inning after he was hit by a pitch in the back...Franklin Gonzalez pinch ran for Adams and later replaced him at second base...Williamsport manager Greg Legg was ejected by home plate umpire Max Guyll in the sixth inning for arguing balls and strikes.
