Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

went 3-for-3 and finished a double shy of the cycle and three IronBirds pitchers tossed a combined three-hitter to help Aberdeen sweep Williamsport and win its fifth straight, 5-1 on Friday.

Johnson-a reserve catcher playing in just his fourth game of the season-hit .714 with five hits in seven at-bats and two RBI during the three game series.

Aberdeen starter Zach Britton one-hit the Crosscutters through 5 2/3 innings for his first professional win. Britton (1-2) gave up a run on one hit with three walks and three strikeouts. The win was his first since being drafted last June.

IronBirds relievers Joe Esposito and Scott Mueller worked the final 3 1/3 innings and gave up just one hit between them. Mueller struck out the side in a scoreless ninth.

The IronBirds rapped out ten hits and were helped by a porous Williamsport defense which committed four errors.

Johnson put Aberdeen on the board with an RBI triple in the third inning. The catcher ripped a 2-2 fastball past a diving Mike Durant and into the right field corner to score Franklin Gonzalez from first base.

Johnson's solo home run to deep right field led off the fifth inning for the IronBirds. He followed with a bloop single to shallow center field in the seventh inning in his third at-bat.

Williamsport starter Chance Chapman took the loss despite pitching well. Chapman (3-1) gave up three runs in five innings with seven strikeouts and no walks but fell victim to Williamsport's struggling defense.

Joe Mahoney returned to the Aberdeen lineup after missing seven games due to an abscess on his stomach.
