Aberdeen, MD – The Aberdeen IronBirds today announced that the club is unveiling a new, alternative "IB" logo, which will be featured on the 2003 IronBird team batting practice caps.

The club's original logo, which will remain the primary mark for Aberdeen, is a cartoon silver jet, a tie-in to the Aberdeen Proving Ground, a military testing facility in town. The jet has blue eyes, which IronBirds owner Cal Ripken Jr. attributes to his mother, Violet. The jet has an orange number "8" on its tail, which is the number Ripken wore during his entire 21-year career with the Orioles.

During its inaugural season in 2002, the IronBirds were among the top 15 teams in all of minor league baseball in merchandise sales.

"The mass appeal of the IronBirds primary logo is something we're very proud of," said IronBirds General Manager Jeff Eiseman. "The new ‘IB' logo is designed to appeal to traditional baseball fans with a very classic look, and I'm excited because this new logo accomplishes just that."

Aberdeen is set to officially unveil the new "IB" batting practice caps at "Iron Fever 2003," a fan festival at Ripken Stadium on Saturday, May 3rd. IronBirds coowner Billy Ripken will be modeling the new "IB" batting practice cap and other IronBirds merchandise, and will also sign autographs from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.

The IronBirds, the Class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles in the New York- Penn League, are set to begin their second season on Tuesday, June 17th, at Ripken Stadium vs. the Brooklyn Cyclones, the New York Mets' affiliate.
