The Aberdeen IronBirds (1-9) dropped their 4th 1-run game in the young 2005 season, as they were defeated by the Brooklyn Cyclones, 2-1 on Thursday night in front of 6,308 at Ripken Stadium. 1B Mark Fleisher did his best to lead the offensive charge, going 3-4 with 2 doubles, but it was not enough to sneak by Brooklyn (8-2).
Starter Bruce Gallaway was wild in 1.2 innings of work, walking 4 but not allowing a hit. He left in the 2nd with elbow soreness. Moises Hernandez took the loss (0-1), throwing 4.1 innings of 2-run ball. He walked 3 more, and added 6 strikeouts. Reid Hamblet finished the game off, throwing 3 outstanding innings of 2-hit scoreless ball.
CF Zo Scott, SS Ryan Steinbach, 3B Matt Pulley and C Joe Michalski each pitched in a hit to the IronBirds offensive cause, but the team stranded 7 men, unable to bring home the trying run.
Opening Day starter Ryan Schwabe will make his 3rd start of the year tomorrow night at 7:05 in the second game of a 3-game set against Brooklyn.
