
Iowa Stars sign draft pick

DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced today that the Des Moines-based American Hockey League (AHL) team has signed winger Tuomas Mikkonen (TWOH-muhs mih-KOH-nehn) to an AHL contract. Keeping with club policy, terms of the contract have not been disclosed.
Drafted by the Dallas Stars with their 11th pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Mikkonen has skated the last five seasons in Finland with JyP HT Jyvaskyla. Appearing in 190 games, he recorded 38 points via 21 goals and 17 assists: 190(21/17/38). The 6-1, 183-pound winger has 103 penalty minutes in those 190 games. The left-handed shooter was born in Jyvaskyla, Finland on March 25th, 1983.
