DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White today officially announced the naming of the Iowa Stars Captain and Alternate Captains for the 2006-2007 season. Selected by Iowa Coaches and Management, defenseman Marty Wilford was named as the Stars second Captain in franchise history. Center Toby Petersen and Right Wing Junior Lessard were also selected as Alternate Captains for this season.

The 29-year old Wilford is in his first season with the Iowa Stars and is off to a fast start. In two games this season, the Cobourg, Ontario native has notched five assists to lead all AHL defensemen in points: 2(0/5/5). A nine-season professional, he's skated in 680 games, while posting 53 goals and 261 assists: 680(53/261/314). Wilford played in 79 games with the Manchester (NH) Monarchs during the 2005-06 season, notching five goals and 36 assists: 79(5/36/41). Since the 2000-01 season, Wilford has appeared in no-less than 77 games in a season and has appeared in 476 of a possible 482 AHL games.

Now in his seventh season as a professional, Petersen paced the Iowa Stars last season in several categories including: points (73), assists (47), games played (79), and points per game (.92). The Minneapolis, Minnesota native finished the 2005-06 Regular Season ranked 17th in the AHL in points, and 20th in assists: 79(26/47/73). Named the Iowa Stars Most Valuable Player and Community Service Award winner and selected as the Stars Fan Favorite, Petersen was tied for second on the team with a 'plus 14' rating. The 27 year-old notched two goals and four assists in Iowa's seven-game playoff series with Milwaukee. His NHL Regular Season totals reflect 10 goals, 16 assists and eight penalty minutes in 91 games, all as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins: 91(10/16/26)8. Including last season, his AHL numbers show 112 goals, 167 assists in 372 games: 372(112/167/279).

The 26-year old Lessard recorded 26 goals and 32 assists for 58 points in 66 games with Iowa last season. He also posted one goal in five NHL games with Dallas in 2005-06. Named the 2004 Hobey Baker Award winner as the Top U.S. Collegiate Hockey Player, Lessard has totaled 39 goals and 45 assists for 84 points in 139 career AHL contests. He was recently named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 8th, 2006. Lessard had two goals and three assists in two games over the weekend: 2(2/3/5)
