
Iowa Hangs on for 91-83 Win over Austin at NBA D-League Showcase

SANTA CRUZ, CA. - The Iowa Energy (8-10) defeated the Austin Spurs (14-5) by a score of 91-83 on Wednesday in the fourth and final game of the NBA Development League Showcase in Santa Cruz, CA.
The opening minutes featured five lead changes and five ties, and with 5:13 remaining in the first quarter, Joel Wright hit a jump shot to take a 14-12 advantage and the Energy never looked back. Alex Stepheson's six points and three rebounds were quarter highs for both teams and Keifer Sykes and Deshaun Thomas added five points apiece for the Spurs in the opening frame.
The Energy extended their lead in the second quarter, limiting the Spurs to just 12 points on five-of-23 shooting to take a 47-33 advantage into halftime. Memphis Grizzles assignee' James Ennis led all scorers at the half with 10 points while Orlando Johnson paced the Spurs with eight first-half points.
The Spurs made five of their nine three-pointers in the third quarter and held the Energy to 33 percent (8-of-24) shooting in the stanza to trim Iowa's lead to 71-59 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter Austin got within four points, 83-79, with 4:16 remaining after a 12-0 run, but it wasn't enough as Iowa escaped with the 91-83 win, snapping their seven-game losing streak and handing the Spurs their first back-to-back losses of the season.
Ennis had a game-high 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting and Stepheson recorded a 12-point, 16-rebound double-double, building on his league-leading 13.2 rebounds per game. Memphis Grizzlies assignee' Jarell Martin added a double-double of his own with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Demetri McCamey led the way for the Spurs offensively, finishing with a team-high 14 points on six-of-nine shooting off the bench. Johnson (13), Cady Lalanne (12), Thomas (11), Sykes (10) and Ndoye (10) rounded out the double-digit scorers for Austin.
Iowa will play their final game of the D-League Showcase on Friday, January 8 at 10:30 p.m. ET against the Santa Cruz Warriors (10-10). Austin's next game will also be their final game of the Showcase as they face off against the Erie BayHawks (5-11) on Friday, January 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
