Iowa Barnstormers Announce 2022 Roster

DES MOINES - After completing a strenuous, hard-hitting Training Camp, the Iowa Barnstormers have finalized their 25-man roster for the 2022 season.
"We feel we have a roster with enough talent to compete for a berth in the United Bowl," said Head Coach Dave Mogensen. "We love that right now we are unknowns because of the number of rookies we have. Unleashing these rookies into the IFL is going to be exciting."
The final roster includes 15 rookies who will make their indoor football debut on the road against the Quad City Steamwheelers on Friday, March 18.
Leading those rookies will be quarterbacks Darius-James Peterson out of the College of Idaho and Tez Nunnery out of Lakeland University.
"Having two rookie quarterbacks makes for a different style of camp. Not only are you installing schemes, but you need to adjust to also help them understand the speed and style of the game," said Coach Mogensen. "Both Darius and Tez had outstanding camps. They have picked up fast, have an open mind, and have been coachable. Both are very capable of taking the reigns for the team and we are extremely excited to have them on board."
Rookie receivers Alvin Bailey and Dom McNeil are joining a talented receiver core that also includes returner Kentrez Bell and a pair of veterans in Kezlow Smith and Eric Thomas rounded up by dual threat rookie receiver/running back Antonio Wimbush.
Cole Carter, a rookie offensive lineman out of Mississippi State, joins an experienced offensive line featuring returner Keveon Broadwater, Jonte Berry, and Donell Paster.
On the defense, rookie linebacker Ian McBorrough has earned his goggles and will enter a talented lineage of powerhouse Barnstormers linebackers like alumni Javicz Jones and Tony Jones.
An impressive rookie lineup makes the Barnstormers secondary for the 2022 season, featuring defensive backs LeCorey Demease, Titus Howard, Justic'e King, Roosevelt Lawrence, and JR Stevens. The DB core is rounded up by Jordan Baldwin who is entering his second season in the Indoor Football League (IFL).
Christopher Robinson, a rookie defensive lineman out of Morgan State, has earned his goggles after showing up to the team's Open Tryout in December. He is joined by rookies Jordon Beaton and Marshaun Jones on the line. Dave Calderon also joins the defensive line with one year of indoor experience under his belt and veteran Ra'Shawde Myers returns to Des Moines after a hiatus from the team.
Rounding up the 2022 Iowa Barnstormers roster is kicker Gabriel Rui who returns after joining the team midway through the 2021 season.
"We feel like we have a few guys who do not belong here because they one hundred percent should be playing at a higher level," said Coach Mogensen. "We have a great group of men that are ready to do some damage on the field and represent the Barnstormers, the city of Des Moines, and the state of Iowa in a positive way."
The Iowa Barnstormers will travel to face the Quad City Steamwheelers on Friday, March 18 at the TaxSlayer Center in their first game of the 2022 IFL season.
