Intimidators top Crawdads at Deal Stadium in Granite Falls

Professional baseball returned to M.S. Deal Stadium in Granite Falls for the first time in five decades Tuesday night. The Hickory Crawdads, playing their first home game away from LP Frans Stadium in the 14 year franchise history, fell to the Kannapolis Intimidators 11-4 in front of 1,234 fans.

The Intimidators got on the board in the second inning against Hickory starter Todd Redmond. Kannapolis catcher Francisco Hernandez led off with a double. He moved to third on a ground ball out and scored on a passed ball.

The I's led 1-0 entering the fifth inning. Kannapolis would blow the game open with seven runs in the frame against Redmond and reliever Derek Antelo. Kannapolis got a three run homer from SS Javier Castillo and a solo blast from 2B Brandon Johnson.

Hickory got on the board in the fifth inning. Crawdad 2B John Santiago singled home DH James Boone to cut the Hickory deficit to 8-1. Hickory SS Brent Lillibridge doubled home Santiago cutting the lead to 8-2.

Kannapolis got two runs in the top of the sixth. The ‘Dads answered with two in the bottom of the sixth. Crawdad 1B Mike McCuistion led off the inning with his first homer of the season.

Rafael Flores (1-0) worked five and one-third innings allowing four runs on eight hits in the win. Todd Redmond (5-4) gave up six runs (five earned) on eight hits over four innings in the loss.

Kannapolis DH Brent Matheny had four hits, scored twice and drove in one. Castillo tallied four RBI's in the fifteen hit Intimidator attack.

The two teams play the fourth of a five game series at LP Frans Stadium 7pm Wednesday night. Crawdad righty Joe Bauserman faces Kannapolis right hander Derek Rodriguez.
