Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - Three Intimidators pitchers combined to strike out 16 hitters on Friday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, but it was little consolation as the Greenville Drive cruised to an 8-0 victory.
Daniel Hudson struck out 11 batters in 5 2/3 innings, including eight in the first three frames, but took the loss after giving up two runs. That was all the offense the Drive would need against Hudson (1-2), as the Intimidators (10-6) were held to four hits for the second consecutive evening.
Brock Huntzinger (1-0) battled out of trouble over and over again to go 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Armando Zerpa retired all ten batters he faced to close out the comfortable win and earn his first save of the year.
Nearly all the damage was done late in the ballgame. Greenville (10-6) scored two runs in the seventh and four in the eighth to end all doubt. Leroy Hunt allowed six runs on six hits in two innings, but did not factor in the final decision.
Anothony Rizzo continued his hot hitting for the Drive. Rizzo went 3- for-5 with a double and two runs scored to lead the offensive charge.
