
Inter Miami CF to Face Columbus Crew on Saturday in Breeze Airways Carolina Challenge Cup

Inter Miami CF will embark on its 2022 Breeze Airways Carolina Challenge Cup preseason campaign this Saturday, Feb. 12, taking on the Columbus Crew in its first game of the tournament. The match at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina will kick off at 1 p.m. ET and will be streamed live in the Inter Miami App for local fans.

The match between the two MLS sides will see them kick off the round-robin exhibition. Columbus enters the match following a 2021 MLS campaign that saw them finish ninth in the Eastern Conference, missing the playoffs. Since then, the team has retooled with the acquisitions of Yaw Yeboah, Milos Degenek and James Igbekeme, among others.
The team will also have returning star playmaker Lucas Zelarayán and leading striker Gyasi Zardes in 2022, and continue to be helmed by head coach Caleb Porter, who led the team to the 2020 MLS Cup and 2021 Campeones Cup titles.
Inter Miami, meanwhile, now boasts a number of key new players, including DeAndre Yedlin, a 28-year-old U.S. Men's National Team defender and former MLS All-Star returning to the league, Jean Mota, a 28-year-old midfielder with more than 250 matches under his belt at South American powerhouse club Santos FC, Christopher McVey, a versatile defender with experience in European competition, Damion Lowe, a Jamaican international captain, Emerson Rodríguez, a Colombian U22 Initiative signing, Leonardo Campana, a young Ecuadorian international coming from the English Premier League, and ¬â¹ ¬â¹Bolivian international center back Jairo Quinteros, who joined the club's First Team following a two-year loan. The team has also added a trio of in-prime players with notable MLS experience in Bryce Duke, Mo Adams, Ariel Lassiter and Clément Diop, and promoted from within the club, including the signings of 2021 Fort Lauderdale CF standouts George Acosta and Aimé Mabika.
The 2022 preseason has seen Inter Miami face three MLS opponents thus far, taking on the Crew, D.C. United and CF Montréal, as well as one Peruvian opponent, defeating Club Universitario de Deportes 4-0 in the team's first international friendly at DRV PNK Stadium.
