COLUMBIA, S.C. (May 31, 2006) - The Columbia Inferno announced today that Kevin Kavanagh has been hired as the team's new Chief Operating Officer and General Manager. Kavanagh is the second GM in the five-year history of the Inferno, taking over for Rick Woodard who is moving over to Ribeau Entertainment to be Project Manager of the new sports and entertainment arena being built in Lexington County.

He was responsible for the start up of the new team with responsibilities of staffing, budget planning, and marketing and sponsorship sales. In addition to the Stars, Kavanagh has worked for the Hartford Wolf Pack, the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers, Trinity (CT) College and the Hartford Whalers.
"Kevin was selected from a field of very qualified candidates," said Ezra Riber, President of the Inferno, "I am confident that Kevin will run a first-class operation in an effort to offer sports fans in the Midlands the best entertainment that hockey can provide."
"I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to take the Columbia Inferno into their new era," stated Kavanagh. "This is an opportunity that I have been working towards for the past 15 years. With the ground-breaking on our new arena coming soon and the recent naming of Troy Mann as our new Head Coach, there is a great deal of excitement surrounding the team. We are going to bring the Inferno back to their rightful place among the top franchises in the ECHL."
Kavanagh, a Duxbury, Massachusetts native, is assuming full duties effective immediately as he embarks on his new opportunity in the ECHL. He, his wife Rebecca and their daughter Riley will be relocating to the Lexington County area soon.
