INDIANAPOLIS (Monday, May 11, 2015) - Indy Eleven Professional Soccer inked another talent with Indiana ties today with the signing of defender Daniel Keller. Per club policy, terms of the contract will not be disclosed.
Fans will be able to meet the newest member of the "Boys in Blue" tonight in addition to midfielder Brad Ring from 6:00-7:30 p.m. ET this evening at BoomBozz Taphouse Restaurant in Carmel, located at 2430 E. 146th Street. The event is part of BoomBozz's celebration of American Craft Brew Week alongside Indy Eleven partner Flat 12 Bierwerks, whose Full 90 Pale Ale will be available at tonight's event. Part of the proceeds from every Full 90 Pale Ale sold will go back to the Brickyard Battalion independent supporters group to assist their efforts in supporting "Indiana's Team".
"Daniel is a tremendous competitor who brings a great deal of versatility and a real professional work ethic in tow with him," said Indy Eleven head coach and director of soccer operations Juergen Sommer. "He's very technically sound and a great one-on-one defender who can play anywhere on the backline and even slot into a defensive midfield role."
The 23-year-old Keller was born and raised in Carmel and attended Indianapolis' Brebeuf Jesuit Prep School, where he played for three years alongside his new Indy Eleven teammate goalkeeper Jon Dawson. Keller would go on play at the University of Louisville, going from a redshirt year in 2010 to being named the captain of the Cardinals for his senior season last fall. Keller's standout play with Louisville caught the eyes of defending Major League Soccer champion LA Galaxy, who selected him in the third round (62nd overall) of this January's MLS SuperDraft.
"Firstly I want to thank Peter Wilt, Juergen Sommer and the rest of the coaching staff for giving me this opportunity to play in my home city," said Keller, who was been training with Indy Eleven for the last four weeks. "The club has welcomed me with open arms across the last month, and I can't thank my new teammates enough for that. I'm looking forward to contributing as much as possible on the field and ultimately towards bringing a title to the great fans of Indy Eleven."
During his five years with the Louisville program, Keller would go from a redshirt walk-on to a senior captain, scoring six goals and adding four assists across his 74 appearances from 2011-14. During his senior season last fall, Keller started all 22 games and scored three goals - all game-winners - for the Cardinals en route to an 11-8-3 record in their debut season in the Atlantic Coast Conference and a fourth straight appearance in the NCAA College Cup postseason tournament.
While at Brebeuf, Keller earned IHSAA All-State honors following his junior and senior seasons and was also a member of the 2009 Indiana Olympic Development Program (ODP) squad that won U.S. Soccer's 2009 ODP National Championship. Keller played club soccer with Indiana United, where he guided his teams to four straight Indiana Soccer Association State Cup championships.
Indy Eleven will return to its home of IUPUI's Michael A. Carroll Stadium this Saturday, May 16, when it welcomes Minnesota United FC for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Military Appreciation Night at "The Mike" (live on WISH-TV 8, ESPN3.com and Exitos Radio 1590AM). Fans can purchase their tickets for as little as $10 via www.IndyEleven.com or by calling 317-685-1100 (Mon-Fri, 9a-5p).
