Indy Eleven News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Indy Eleven tacked another attacker on to the squad's roster with today's addition of Jamaican forward Owayne "Omar" Gordon via a loan deal with Jamaican Red Stripe Premier League side Montego Bay United. Per club policy, neither details of the player's contract nor the loan agreement between the two clubs will be released.
The 24-year-old Gordon becomes the 22nd player on the Indy Eleven roster for the 2016 NASL Spring Season, and he will occupy the sixth of team's seven available international player roster slots. Gordon will join his new Indy Eleven teammates upon the completion of his visa application process and will be eligible to play pending his international transfer certificate clearance.
"Omar is an explosive player who is a finished product around goal. He has the ability to score goals while attacking from either wing position, can help create assists and works just as hard on the defensive side as he does in attack," said Indy Eleven head coach Tim Hankinson. "Being a former player of mine, Omar is familiar with the system I've installed here. That coupled with the fact he's been in-season with Montego Bay United means he will be able to contribute to the squad as soon as he arrives."
Gordon has spent the entirety of his five-year professional career with Montego Bay United, during which he has helped the squad to the 2013/14 RSPL championship, a runner-up finish the following season and a spot in this year's four-team playoff, currently in the semifinal stages. The winger is currently enjoying the best form of his career after leading the Red Stripe Premier League with 18 goals, 12 of which have come in the second half of the campaign since January. Gordon also made two appearances on CONCACAF Champions League play last fall off the bench for Montego Bay United, playing a combined 48 minutes in Group Stage fixtures versus MLS side D.C. United and Arabe Unido of Panama.
Coach Hankinson will be available for comment on the Gordon signing as well as the team's weekend match-up against the New York Cosmos following Indy Eleven's training session on Friday, to be held at IUPUI's Carroll Stadium from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. ET. Media wishing to confirm availability can contact John Koluder in the Indy Eleven Communications Department at john@indyeleven.com or 317-919-0808.
Indy Eleven continues its 2016 NASL Spring Season this Saturday evening at "The Mike" against the defending NASL champion and current first-place holder Cosmos. Fans can currently secure their seats for the 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Carroll Stadium via the team's 2016 Season Ticket package, the Starting Eleven Flex Pack plan or single-game tickets, the latter of which start at just $11.
