Colabello Makes Opening Day Roster...
Chris Colabello's performance at Minnesota Twins Spring Training last month earned him a spot on the New Britain Rock Cats roster. The former Tornadoes first baseman and native of Milford, Mass. garnered Baseball America's 2011 Indy League Player of the Year Award for his impressive summer in Central Massachusetts. One season later, he's achieved what his goal has been all along: making it into affiliated ball.
The Rock Cats are the AA affiliate of the Twins based in New Britain, Connecticut and play their games less than 100 miles from the HIP. Opening Day for the Rock Cats is today, with a match-up against the Richmond Flying Squirrels at 6:05pm.
Colabello knew of his potential landing spot when he was first invited to 2012 Spring Training, and did exactly what the Twins expected of him to etch his name onto the AA roster as a first baseman. Even if he doesn't start on Thursday, Chris has a decent chance of cracking the lineup on Friday, when the Rock Cats have a doubleheader.
The Tornadoes will have an exclusive video interview with Chris in the coming weeks, with the potential for more surprises down the road...
