SPOKANE, WA: Mike Salvatore was 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and three RBI, but it wasn't enough, as the Spokane Indians defeated the Everett AquaSox 6-5 before a crowd of 3,086 at Avista Stadium.
Salvatore, the Seattle Mariners ninth round pick in 2019 out of Florida State University, has enjoyed a hot stretch since being activated from the Injured List. He has hit in five straight, including three straight multi-hit games. In six games with Everett, Salvatore has four home runs and 10 RBI.
With Spokane leading 1-0 AquaSox right fielder Alberto Rodriguez led off the fourth inning with a walk. One out later, Salvatore hit a two run home run to leftfield against Spokane starting pitcher Evan Shawver (1-4) to give the AquaSox their only lead of the game, 2-1.
AquaSox starter Bryce Miller (3-2) encountered trouble in the fourth inning. After issuing back-to-back walks to Drew Romo and Grant Lavigne, Miller hit Spokane's Julio Carreras to load the bases with nobody out. Miller proceeded to walk Colin Simpson to force in Romo, which tied the game at 2-2. Later in the inning with two outs, Christopher Navarro singled to right to drive in Lavigne and Carreras to make it 4-2.
Salvatore launched a solo homer to left with one out in the eighth to pull the AquaSox closer at 6-4.
In the ninth inning with two outs and the bases empty, the AquaSox made it 6-5 when shortstop Noelvi Marte reached first on a throwing error by Navarro and scored on an RBI double to left by Rodriguez. Dariel Gomez followed with a deep drive to leftfield that was run down by Robby Martin, Jr. to secure the win for Spokane.
The game completed the Northwest League season's first half. The season's second half officially begins on Friday, June 25.
Marte batted 2-for-5 with an RBI. Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Navarro, Lavigne and Romo finished with two hits apiece for Spokane.
