Kinston Indians News Release
Karexon Sanchez hit the K-Tribe's first grand slam of the season and Kyle Bellows knocked in two runs as the Indians won their season-best fifth straight game with a 6-1 victory in Frederick on Friday night. Kinston has won 8 of their last 9 games and is a season-high two games over .500 at 22-20.
The K-Tribe got to work early off of Keys starter Rick Zagone, as Jordan Henry led off with a walk and Sanchez reached on an error in the first inning. With one out, Kyle Bellows scored both of them with a two-run single to left. In the second inning, Lucas Montero and Adam Davis started the inning with back-to-back hits. Henry walked to set the stage for Sanchez, who belted a grand slam to left center field to give the Indians a 6-0 lead.
Frederick came back for one in the second off of Indians starter Nick Hagadone. Miguel Abreu crushed Hagadone's first pitch of the inning over the left field fence for a solo home run. That would end the scoring, as the Keys stranded the bases loaded three times and left 12 runners on base, which tied a season best for K-Tribe pitching. Frederick was 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
Zagone (1-5) took the loss after giving up six runs (five earned) on five hits in two innings. Rob Bryson (1-0) won in relief for the K-Tribe, pitching 1 2/3 hitless innings. Cory Burns earned his first save in his first appearance for Kinston after getting called up from Lake County earlier in the day. He allowed one hit and struck out three in 1 1/3 innings.
The teams meet in the middle game of the series at 6 pm on Saturday night. T.J. House will toe the rubber for Kinston.
