July 4, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charlotte Independence News Release
Cary (NC) - The Charlotte Independence extended their unbeaten streak to five games with a 1-1 draw on the road at in-state rivals North Carolina FC on July 4th. Independence forward Niki Jackson netted the equalizing goal in the 14th minute as goalkeeper Brandon Miller recorded a season-high nine saves.
After a misfortunate play, the Independence trailed early courtesy a Yamikani Chester goal in the third minute. However, the Independence would respond in force off a Niki Jackson power shot. Jackson's equalizer was set up by Independence forward Enzo Martinez who leads in the team with six assists this season.
The second half would see the Independence be out-shot 11-to-1, but the prolific play-making goalkeeper Brandon Miller would record four saves to keep North Carolina FC scoreless.
The Independence will return home to the Sportsplex at Matthews on Sunday, July 7th versus Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. The Independence will next be in action on Saturday, July 13th as the 5th Annual Charlotte Fire vs Charlotte Police charity soccer game proceeds the Independence taking on Saint Louis FC.
