Ignition Update

January 22, 2009 - Xtreme Soccer League (XSL)
Detroit Ignition News Release

BIG MEN, BIG GAME: Sunday's game features the two biggest players in the XSL. The Ignition's Worteh Sampson, who is known as "The Giant" and stands at 6'1" 211 lbs, will face off against Shawn Boney of the New Jersey Ironmen. Boney stands at 6'7", 265 lbs. This will be the first time the two players have gone head-to-head this season - Sampson was injured when Detroit and New Jersey met back on December 20.

WALTMAN ON FIRE: Danny Waltman is known well for his backflip off the boards during player introductions. But what he's doing on the field should draw far more attention. After leading the MISL last year with a .744 save percentage, he's posted a .781 mark (100 of 128) so far this season in leading the Ignition to a 4-2 mark and first place. The 128 shots are also a league high; Detroit's high-pressure style can sometimes leave Waltman exposed but it works in the Ignition's favor when he's turning away almost 80 percent of his shots.

WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE! The Ignition will look to extend their home-field winning streak to 14 games with a victory over the visiting New Jersey Ironmen on Sunday. The Ignition won their last 10 home games in 2008, and haven't been defeated at Compuware this season.
