
Ignition topples defending champs 17-6

(Southfield, Mich., November 3, 2007) - The Detroit Ignition defeated the defending MISL Champion Philadelphia KiXX 17-6 in front of a sell-out crowd at Compuware Arena tonight. The contest served as a rematch between the two clubs who last met in the MISL Championship Finals last April.
Ignition defender Jonathan Greenfield scored the Ignition's first goal of the 2007-08 season at 12:35 in the first quarter, a two-point shot off an assist from midfielder Ricardinho. With one second left in the quarter, Detroit forward Hewerton Moreira booted a three-point goal past Philadelphia keeper Peter Pappas. Ricardinho notched an assist on the goal, which brought the score to 5-0.
Hewerton struck again at 8:52 in the second period with a two-point goal off an assist from midfielder Vahid Assadpour. Ricardinho scored the final two points of the half on a power-play, bringing the score at halftime to 9-0.
Ricardinho scored again at 9:19 in the third quarter with a two-point shot off an assist from Hewerton. Midfielder Tony Donatelli put the first points on the board for Philadelphia with a two-point goal at 12:20 in the third. Forward Aaron Susi notched an assist on the goal.
Philadelphia midfielder Angel Rivillo notched a two-point power play goal at 6:10 in the fourth quarter with an assist from forward Don D'Ambra. Rivillo scored again at 9:14 with a two-point shot off an assist from Susi to bring the score to 11-6.
As the quarter came to a close, Philadelphia brought in a sixth attacker. Ignition defender Droo Callahan and midfielder Kyt Selaidopoulos both took advantage of the empty net, each scoring a three-point goal to bring the final score to 17-6.
The Detroit Ignition is a member club of the Major Indoor Soccer League, and begins the team's second season in November 2007 after advancing to the MISL Championship Finals during the 2006-07 season.
