Ignition top wave for fifteenth straigth home win
February 8, 2009 - Xtreme Soccer League (XSL)
Detroit Ignition News Release
(Plymouth, Mich., - February 8, 2009) - The Detroit Ignition (6-2) strengthened their hold on the XSL's top spot tonight with a 10-4 victory over the visiting Milwaukee Wave (6-4). The victory is the Ignition's 15th straight win at Compuware and fifth consecutive victory this season.
Forward Worteh Sampson got Detroit off to a 2-0 lead late in the first quarter off an assist from Josh Rife. Nathan Sabich answered for the Wave at 4:14 of the second to tie the clubs up at 4-all, a score that would remain the same going into halftime.
After a slow first half by indoor soccer standards, fans at Compuware caught a lot more action in the last two stanzas. Vahid Assadpour netted a two-point goal for Detroit just 25 seconds into the third, which was quickly equaled with a two-pointer from Milwaukee's Troy Dusosky. The Ignition were able to stifle any possible momentum from Dusosky's goal with a 6-0 run thanks to goals from Sampson, Assadpour, and Livonia native Nic Djokic, who scored the first goal of his professional career.
The Ignition and Wave will play a rematch of tonight's game next Sunday, February 15 at U.S. Cellular Arena.
