New Jersey Ironmen News Release

Newark, N.J. (Sunday, February 08, 2009) - An energetic crowd came out to Prudential Center to cheer on their hometown New Jersey Ironmen (3-6), but they would leave disappointed. In a game that saw New Jersey take a third quarter lead off a nice-looking goal by XSL point leader Lucio, the host Ironmen would go on to eventually suffer an 18-12 decision to the visiting Chicago Storm (3-6).

Reigning Rookie of the Year Frederico Moojen returned to Prudential Center doing the same thing he did when he played there as a member of the Ironmen, scoring goals. Moojen, who was traded to the Storm two weeks ago for New Jersey native Randi Patterson, knocked in the first tally of the afternoon at 7:26 of the opening frame on an unassisted touch. Chicago extended their lead to 4-0 at 10:13 when Ian Bennett finished a feed from Branko Savic.

The Ironmen got on the board 16 seconds into a power play at 3:25 of the second stanza when playmaker Goran Vasic sent a restart ball to forward Adauto Neto on the left flank, and the Brazilian striker pounded the pass into the back of the net. Patterson evened the count at four each when the Bergen Catholic graduate hit his first notch as an Ironmen player at 6:19, making good on a Neto assist. Chicago forward Chris Cerroni then recorded a two-pointer at 13:19 to give the visiting side a 6-4 lead going into halftime.

At 13:02 of the third period, New Jersey defender Oral Bullen one-touched a Shawn Boney ball past Storm goalkeeper Jeff Richey to equalize for the Ironmen, and Chile Farias set up Lucio at 10:06 to give the home team their first lead of the contest, 8-6. The Storm then knocked in three consecutive goals to close out the third quarter with a 12-8 advantage.

The fourth quarter saw a pair of open net three-pointers for Chicago and goals in the final minute by Ironmen defender Rey Martinez and Neto hang the final 18-12 score in favor of the Storm.

New Jersey returns to Prudential Center on Wednesday, February 18th, for a school day against the Detroit Ignition and Thursday, February 19th, for a 7:30 p.m. match up against Chicago. Tickets are available now by calling 1-800-IRONMEN.
