Ignition falls to Storm, 18-4

(Southfield, Mich., March 11, 2007) - The Detroit Ignition (15-10) offense struggled as the club fell to the Chicago Storm (11-12), 18-4, at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, IL on Sunday. The game-winning goal was registered by Mark Ughy at 4:16 of the second quarter of play. The Ignition plays host to the defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast on Friday, March at Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, MI. Game-time for the Ignition-Blast game is slated for 7:35 pm ET.

Storm midfielder Matt Stewart began the game's scoring with a two-point goal just 1:47 into the opening frame of play to hand Chicago the early 2-0 advantage. Ignition forward Mike Apple evened the score up at 2-2 with a two-point goal at 10:21 off an assist from the League's leading scorer, Jamar Beasley. Stewart registered another two-pointer to put Chicago up 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Chicago forward Mark Ughy scored a short-handed two-point goal at the 4:16 mark of the second quarter of play to extend the Storm lead to 6-2. The Storm struck again with a two-point goal from rookie Stephan Armstrong at 6:56 to hand the third-year club the 8-2 lead. Awadalla Morad kept the Storm offensive pressure going with a two-point goal at 11:28, handing Chicago a 10-2 advantage at halftime.

With the only goal of the third quarter, Morad brought the Storm lead to 12-2 with a two-point tally at 8:33.

Just 12 seconds into the fourth quarter, Armstrong scored his second goal of the game, a two-pointer, bringing the Chicago lead to 14-2. Ughy kept the Storm in complete control at 16-2 with his second two-point goal of the game at 3:25. Andy Rosenband buried a two-pointer into the back of the net in traffic at 4:42 as the Storm moved to their lead to 18-2. Mike Apple stopped the Storm scoring streak as he registered a two-point power play goal for the Ignition at 6:34, giving Chicago the 18-4 victory.

Notes:

Ignition goalkeeper Sanaldo (12-9) did not finish the game in net but earned the loss for the Ignition...Four Storm players each registered two goals in a well-balanced offensive attack...Mark Ughy registered the game-winning goal at the 4:16 mark of the second quarter.
