Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
AMARILLO, TEXAS - The Corpus Christi IceRays (19-21-5) put up early goals, and the lead is enough to take down the Amarillo Bulls (10-31-4) 4-2 on Friday night at the Amarillo Civic Center.
Just like their last trip to the Texas Panhandle, the IceRays grabbed the game's first goal within the first five minutes. At 4:27, defenseman Colton Meekhof trailed in the right circle, received an open pass, and buried the game-opener to give the road side 1-0. The IceRays gained the game's first power play and capitalized on that chance. Forward Regen Cavanagh received a drop-off pass in the right circle and slotted it from that area at 12:45 to double the lead, 2-0.
Due to a shoving match to end the first period, the IceRays earned their second power play and remained perfect. Once again the pass came to the right side of the net, but this time forward Mason Krueger tapped the puck into the back of the net at 1:51 to triple the IceRays lead, 3-0. The Bulls would find their answer at 6:25 when forward Michael Forman was disrupted coming in offensively, grabbed the puck back, and rifled it in the top-left corner to cut the lead to two, 3-1.
The Bulls pressed often in the third period and found another tally. At 4:43, forward George Mike re-directed a shot coming from the right wall over the netminder to draw within one, 3-2. After a strong Bulls press and a pull of their netminder, forward Drake Lindsay found Cavanagh for the empty net goal and the seal of the win, 4-2.
IceRays netminder Dryden McKay (9-8-2) earned the win, stopping 38 of 40 shots, while Bulls goaltender Brian Baker (2-16-0) picked up the loss, stopping 28 of 31 shots.
