North Richland Hills, TX - The Lone Star Brahmas broke a deadlock in the third period with a pair of goals and held on for a 3-1 victory Friday night at NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills, TX.
Both teams came out of the gates flying, but it was Hampus Sjodahl (23) who got the Jacks on the board just one minute and 27 seconds into the first after a great cross-ice feed from Derek Brown who extended his point streak to a season-high 11 games. The Jacks had a chance to add to its lead with a short 5-on-3 power play, but the Brahmas showed off why they have the second-best PK in the league denying both Jacks PP chances.
In the second, Jakob Romo (1) countered just 43 seconds into the seconds after he followed up an initial shot from the top of the crease that was denied by the right pad of Dean Shatzer. Just like the first, after an early goal, neither team was able to score in the remainder of the frame even though the Brahmas twice went on the power play and the Jacks also enjoyed a power play for one minute and 16 seconds.
In the third, Lone Star took its first lead when Joey Fallon (6) sniped a high-slot shot past Shatzer at 1:59 to make it 2-1. Alex Berardinellini put the game out of reach when he deflected a shot off Ben DiMaio.
Dean Shatzer (8-12-3) was solid despite taking the loss; the Dartmouth commit stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced. Corbin Kaczperski (18-6-2) earned the win making 23 saves on 24 shots.
The Jacks and Brahmas wrap up their two-game series at NYTEX Sports Centre on Saturday night. After Saturday Odessa continues its six game road trip as they travel to Corpus Christi against the IceRays at AmericanBank Center.
