PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks scored six goals over the first two periods of play on Thursday to rout the Bloomington PrairieThunder 6-1 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The decisive win comes a night after the Icehawks blanked the PrairieThunder 1-0 in a defensive battle at McMorran Arena. The Icehawks have been unstoppable versus Bloomington this season. They are undefeated in the season series (9-0-0-0) and have won the last 13 meetings between the teams, dating back to last season. They lead the all-time series 19-3-0-2.
The two teams traded goals early in the first period, before the Icehawks erupted with five consecutive goals, including two more in the first and three in the second stanza. Ian Turner added a pair of goals, Nick Lindberg notched one goal and two assists, and Jamie Carroll and Daniel Tetrault each tallied one goal and one assist. Kerry Bowman also scored for Port Huron. Lindberg's goal and one of Turner's goals came on the power play.
The Icehawks were outshot 30-28 in the win. Icehawks goalie Larry Sterling made 29 saves on 30 shots to earn the victory. Ryan Ludzik turned away 15 of 21 shots for Bloomington before he was replaced by Jason Wolfe, who stopped all seven shots he faced. The Icehawks were 2-6 on the power play and the PrairieThunder were 0-3.
With the win, the league leading Icehawks increase their lead in the International Hockey League standings to five points over second place Muskegon. They now hold a record of 31-16-4-1 with 67 points. The PrairieThunder remain in fifth place with a 22-25-1-3 record and 48 points.

The Icehawks and PrairieThunder meet again on Saturday in Bloomington. The Icehawks then travel to Kalamazoo next Wednesday before returning home to take on the PrairieThunder twice more next weekend.
