
Icehawks Fly To Five Straight

ROCHESTER, MI--- The Port Huron Icehawks have been on a winning tear, streaking to five straight wins this past week. The five-game win streak began on November 7th and ties a league high set by Fort Wayne, whose streak ran from October 17th-31st. Forwards Jamie Carroll and Nick Lindberg are leading the way for the Icehawks during the stretch, each having five-game point streaks. Carroll has put up a total of nine points (4g, 5a) while Lindberg has posted eight points (1g, 7a) during the win streak. The Icehawks are currently tied with Fort Wayne and Muskegon for first place in the IHL standings (14 points).
The Icehawks 4-3 win over the Flint Generals Saturday marked the IHL's first shootout of the 2008-09 season. Carroll was the lone scorer in the shootout, sealing the victory for Port Huron. The Generals, who lost in the shootout, were also on the losing end of the first overtime game of the 08-09 season, dropping that game to Kalamazoo back on October 30th.
Two IHL players scored hat tricks this past weekend, making a total of eight players so far this season. Kalamazoo's Lucas Drake was added to that list Friday, scoring one power play and two even-strength goals in the K-Wings 6-1 victory over the Generals. Muskegon's Frank Littlejohn also lit the lamp Friday night with one shorthanded goal and two even-strength tallies to propel the Lumberjacks to a 5-4 win in Fort Wayne. It was the second hat trick scored for the K-Wings and the third for the Lumberjacks this season.

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (1-2-0-0) - Forward Don Parsons had two goals during the week to push his career total to 672 - six short of breaking Kevin Kerr's record of 677 for most goals scored in a career in modern-day professional hockey. Forward Brett Holmberg has scored at least one point in nine of the team's first 11 games (2g, 10a) for 12 points. He had 31 points in 76 games last season as a rookie. The PrairieThunder snapped a four-game string of not scoring on the power play when they netted three power plays goals in 15 chances against Muskegon on Saturday. Rookie forward Jacob Anderson, the son of Atlanta Thrashers' coach John Anderson, was a last-minute addition to the roster Saturday against Muskegon and responded by getting an assist and recording a team-best plus-2 rating. The PrairieThunder organization received a Santa's Workship Award from Toys For Tots in recognition of its support for the community's children through the McLean County Toys for Tots.
Flint Generals - (0-2-0-1) - The Flint Generals play their fifth consecutive three games in three nights out of six straight weeks when they begin action this week. Goaltender Chad Alban is second in the IHL with a 3.16 goals against average and he is second with a .906 save percentage. Kyle Deck is second amongst rookie goal scorers in the IHL with nine points including four goals on the power play. The Generals are the lone IHL still to not record a shorthanded goal but remain amongst the best in penalty killing with the second best mark. Despite being the second most penalized team in the IHL, the Flint Generals rank third in minor penalties assessed with 85 in 14 games. John DiPace leads the IHL is shots with 55 and penalty minutes with 76. Flint still has yet to win a game this season while trailing after 40 minutes of hockey. However, the team is 2-3-0-0 on Friday nights.
Fort Wayne Komets - (1-2-0-0) - Komets moved into three-way first place tie with Muskegon and Port Huron, winning one of three games played. After the first 11 games of the season, the Komets stand at 7-4-0-0 for 14 points. The Komets enter the sixth week of the 2008-09 campaign leading the IHL in goals scored at 54 for a league best 4.91 per game average. The Komets also top the IHL on the power play with a 23.1% efficiency rating. Left wing P.C. Drouin and center Mathieu Curadeau each have a league high 11 goals while center Colin Chaulk leads with 16 assists including an IHL best seven power play assists. Komet head coach Al Sims registered his 499th coaching career win Thursday at Flint and will have a chance to reach 500 when the Komets host Port Huron Friday night at 8:00 p.m. The Komets drew a crowd of 8,332 fans for Friday night's home game against Muskegon. Fort Wayne leads all pro minor leagues with a per game average attendance of 8,919 after four home games.
Kalamazoo Wings - (2-0-0-0) - K-Wings outscored their opponents 12-3 in two victories this week. Jason Tapp played in his 300th career game on November 14th versus Flint. Lucas Drake recorded his 200th career point as part of a four-point night (3 goals, 1 assist) on November 14th versus Flint. Casey Handrahan is three assists shy of 100 in his career. Kalamazoo is 18 of 18 in killing Fort Wayne power-plays this season. Kalamazoo will play their first four-game week this week. Anthony Battaglia, Lucas Drake and Glenn Detulleo each had four points night this week. Tyler Willis returned to the K-Wings lineup last Friday. After being held scoreless in his first game, Willis responded by scoring twice versus Fort Wayne on Saturday. Jeremy Stevenson has five goals in five games with the K-Wings. Kalamazoo has outscored their opponents 23-14 at Wings Stadium this season. Jason Tapp leads all goaltenders in points with two.
Muskegon Lumberjacks - (1-1-0-0) - With their 5-4 win Friday night at Fort Wayne, Muskegon defeated the defending champion Komets for a second consecutive time this season with both victories coming on consecutive Friday nights. When the Lumberjacks sustained a 6-4 setback at Bloomington Saturday night, it ended their season-best four-game win streak. Muskegon has an undefeated record on Friday nights this season (4-0-0-0). All three of the Jacks setbacks have been on Saturday nights this season (2-3-0-0). The Lumberjacks are the last undefeated team on home ice in the IHL with a perfect record of 4-0-0-0. Muskegon's power play is five for the last 16, for a rating of 31.3%. Chad Woollard delivered an IHL individual season high of 12 shots on goal Friday night and extended his scoring streak to six games (5g, 3a). Goaltender Isaac Reichmuth has appeared in all 10 of the Lumberjacks games so far this season.
Port Huron Icehawks - (3-0-0-0) - After starting the season 0-4, the Icehawks have now won seven of their last eight games to find themselves at the top of the league standings for the first time this season. The first period continues to be the Icehawks most prolific this season. They lead the league in first period goals with 22 and have outscored their opponents 22-9 in the opening stanza. Overall, the Icehawks have outscored their opponents 47-35 this season. The Icehawks have outshot their opponents 429-337 this season and lead the league in total shots on goal with 429. They also lead the league in average shots per game with 35.75. When the Icehawks get on the board first, they usually go on to win. They are 6-2 when scoring first this season. Nick Lindberg played in his 250th professional game on Saturday in Flint. Several other Icehawks are quickly approaching milestones. Tab Lardner needs one assist to reach 200 in his pro career, Jason Chafe needs one assist to reach 50 in his career and B.J. Adams is two assists shy of 100 in his pro career.
