Louisiana IceGators News Release

Biloxi, Mississippi--The Louisiana IceGators opened the regular season with a roar. Saturday, they closed it with a whimper. The IceGators struggled on all fronts throughout their 6-3 loss to the Mississippi Surge. The IceGators end the regular season with a 24-27-5 record, which is good enough for the seventh seed in the postseason. Louisiana will take on the Columbus Cottonmouths in the first round of the playoffs. Game one in the best-of-three series takes place Tuesday night at 7:05 P. M. in the Cajundome.

I thought our work ethic and intensity were there tonight, said IceGators head coach Kevin Kaminski. Our execution wasn t there for our transition game to be on. He added, We turned the puck over multiple times, and when we did, they capitalized.

The Surge dominated the game from the very beginning. Nick Guran scored at the 8:09 mark of the first to give Mississippi the early lead. Tyler Lyon tied the game on a powerplay with less than five minutes to go in the opening frame. That tie lasted all of 13 seconds. Shawn Skelly scored twice in as many minutes to give the Surge a 3-1 lead going into the first intermission. The Surge increased their lead to three goals midway through the second period when Lucas LaBelle scored an unassisted goal. The IceGators then began to show signs of life. Brayden Metz made it a 4-2 game when he scored the IceGators second powerplay goal of the night with four minutes remaining in the second. August Aiken put the IceGators within a goal of another tie midway through the third period. Despite the flurry, the comeback would be for naught. Another LaBelle goal and an Adam Stuart powerplay goal sealed the game for Mississippi.

Kaminski was frustrated by how quickly the Surge regrouped following key IceGator goals. We scored twice to make it a one-goal game, and they came back the next shift and scored, he said. It s the biggest shift of the game because we have the momentum. We can t let that happen. We have to regroup and and respond on Tuesday.
