Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, Louisiana--The Pensacola IceFlyers scored three goals in the first two periods en route to a 4-2 victory over the Louisiana IceGators. Jordan Chong, Patrick Knowlton, and Ryan Raven each picked up two points off of those goals. The IceGators attempted another late comeback, but they could not overcome the early deficit.
The IceGators return to the Frozen Swamp tomorrow night when they take on the Mississippi Surge. The puck drops at 7:05 P. M.
"We shot ourselves in the foot again, said IceGators Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "We made a good effort to try to come back, but it's a 60-minute game. We need to have desperation and urgency right off the hop."
Pensacola drew first blood with 33 seconds remaining in the first period. Tyler Soehner scored a powerplay goal to give the IceFlyers a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Chong and Knowlton added two more goals in the second to give Pensacola the 3-0 lead. The IceGators began their comeback attempt with about two minutes left in the frame. Matt Robertson picked up a powerplay goal to cut the Louisiana deficit to two. Marc André Carre added another powerplay goal early in the third to pull the IceGators within one. The IceFlyers added an insurance goal with nine seconds remaining in the game on a Knowlton empty netter.
Kaminski pinpointed one area of his team's play as the most deficient. "We lost way too many one-on-one battles," he said. Kaminski also called out his team for its lackadaisical attitude. "We have to take this loss personally," he commented. "We have to increase our care factor to another level now! We need to play with heart and passion. We need to keep it simple. The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender."
