
IceGators' Comeback Falls Short

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Louisiana IceGators (13-35) began the night in the middle of the season's longest winning streak for the IceGators. They traveled to Augusta, GA to take on the Augusta Riverhawks (26-20). The IceGators faced off against the Riverhawks twice this season already and lost each of them. Tonight the streak ended with Louisiana falling 4-3.
The first period began with the IceGators falling behind early and having to play catch up. Egor Mironov (AUG) scored on the team's first shot on goal 32 seconds into the period. Four minutes later Jim Gehring (AUG) scored and 30 seconds later Ryan Olidis (AUG) scored putting the Riverhawks up 3-0. Louisiana finally got on the board when Paul DAgostino (LOU) scored with 1:54 left in the period. The 'Gators cut into the lead even more with 29 seconds left, CJ Tozzo (LOU) scored his 10th goal of the season.
The second period was uneventful. The IceGators outshot the Riverhawks 14-9 but was unable to capitalize. At one point the 'Gators had nine shots on goal unanswered. However, with 1:02 remaining in the period, Augusta was able to extend the 3-2 lead to 4-2 with a Travis Dunstall (AUG) goal.
The third period began with the IceGators trailing 4-2. The 'Gators struck first in the period when Beau McLaughlin (LOU) scored his 30th goal of the. The IceGators kept applying pressure but could not add the game-tying goal and fell 4-3.
"We played hard tonight," replied IceGators Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "You can't win them all and tonight we fought hard to come back from a big hole. This was a learning opportunity and we will build on this game."
