Louisiana IceGators News Release

Peoria, Ill.--The Louisiana IceGators finally caught a break.

After blowing a two-goal lead in the third period, the IceGators responded in overtime to take a 3-2 road victory over the Peoria Rivermen. Jake Hauswirth scored the game-winner off an Alex Hudson helper 68 seconds into the extra frame.

The IceGators and the Rivermen meet again Saturday night in the Peoria River Center. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

"It's a great team victory for the boys," IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli said. "They fought the whole game, and they were rewarded at the end. Unfortunately, a controversial goal led us to overtime, but we stayed positive, and (Hauswirth) sniped a key goal for us. It's an overall great win."

The IceGators dominated the first period. Stephen Buco put Louisiana on the board at the 5:23 mark when he scored off an Eric Tallent assist. Geordie Wudrick gave the IceGators a two-goal lead nine minutes into the frame with a score off feeds from Jeremy Boyer and Stephen Buco.

The Rivermen wedged their way back into the game during the third period. Dan Bremner cut the Peoria deficit to a goal when he scored at the 8:08 mark. Terrence Wallin and Garrett Vermeersch assisted on the play. Luke Sandler tied the game off helpers from Vermeersch and Mike Donnellan with 2:20 left in regulation.

Part of the reason the IceGators were able to battle back and take the win in overtime is because several players returned to the roster after battling sickness and injury. In fact, Hudson assisted on the game-winner in his first game back after missing last week's games because of illness.

That, Omicioli says, makes this victory even sweeter.

"When we are duly healthy and put a full 60 minutes together, we will be very tough to beat," Omicioli said. "I'm beyond proud of these guys. They never stopped. Now it's on to (Saturday) night."
