Niagara IceDogs News Release
The IceDogs have played very well against the 67s this season, collecting 5 out of a possible 6 points thus far. Refreshed after an off day in the Nations Capital yesterday, the 'Dogs were ready for a big tilt against a team they've become all too familiar with.
Two minutes into the game, Justin MacPherson jumped on a juicy rebound to tap in his first goal of the season, and to take the 1-0 lead. Danial Singer and Ondrej Machala picked up the assists on MacPherson's early tally. Within minutes, the IceDogs were on their first powerplay of the game and Ryan Mantha scored his 14th of the season to take the 2-0 lead. Birthday Boy, Ben Jones and Johnny Corneil collected the assists on Mantha's goal. The first period ended with a 3-0 score, as Johnny Corneil picked up his 2nd point of the period, going bardown on the Ottawa goalie on an extended 4-minute powerplay.
The second period got off to a slower start for both teams, but it was Ottawa who scored first in the middle frame with two quick goals. The IceDogs responded fast with a goal of their own. Aaron Haydon fired home his career-high 9th goal of the season to restore the 2-goal lead nearing the halfway point of the period. Both teams exchanged chances toward the end of the period, but it was the 'Dogs that pulled out of the period with the 4-2 lead.
Ottawa cut the IceDogs lead to 1 early in the 3rd period, but Danial Singer pulled through to give the 'Dogs the 5-3 lead. With less than 10 minutes to play, the 67s scored, once again cutting the lead to 1. In the dying seconds, Ottawa pressed hard for the equalizer, but your 'Dogs stood tall and pulled out the 5-4 win!
The IceDogs return home on March 2nd as they take on the Kitchener Rangers for a 7:00 puck drop. Tickets are still available for this game and can be purchased online HERE or in person at the following locations:
