IceDogs Lose Tough One to Oshawa 6-4; Still Lead Series 2-1

The Niagara IceDogs lost a 6-4 heartbreaker to the Oshawa Generals in game three of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal in front of a sellout crowd of 3,145 Sunday night.
Dougie Hamilton got the IceDogs off to another good start, scoring 5:33 in to give Niagara a 1-0 lead. The Oshawa powerplay would then pick up their first powerplay goal of the series just over midway through the period to tie things up at 1-1. That would prove to be the last of the scoring in the frame as the teams entered the first intermission all tied up.
The second period would see the IceDogs fall behind for the first time in the series as Oshawa scored just over five minutes into the period to make it 2-1. Oshawa would not stop there as they would pick up their second powerplay goal of the period to make it 3-1 after 40 minutes. Shots after two favoured the IceDogs 26-24.
The third period would see the IceDogs come storming back as Steven Shipley would pick up his third goal in two games to close the lead to 3-2, before Ryan Strome struck on the powerplay to knot things up at 3-3 with just under 8:30 remaining. The IceDogs would not stop there however as Strome would fire one home after a great pass from Dougie Hamilton to give the IceDogs a 4-3 lead just over a minute later. Oshawa would not give in however as they continued to fight and would eventually be able to tip one by Mark Visentin to tie things up once again. Disaster would strike only eight seconds later as the Generals would strike again to retake the lead at 5-4. The IceDogs would pressure Oshawa once again late, but Boone Jenner would complete a hat trick with an empty net goal to make it a 6-4 final for Oshawa.
Final shots in the game were 50-36 in favour of the IceDogs, as Oshawa starter Daniel Altshuller was stellar in the victory.
Despite the loss, the IceDogs still lead the series 2-1, and will head to Oshawa on Wednesday for game four of the series. Game five of the series will then return to Niagara next Saturday night.
Now that the game is guaranteed, tickets for Saturday's game five in St. Catharines will go on sale tomorrow (Monday) at noon through all IceDogs ticket locations!
The IceDogs will also be running a bus trip to Oshawa for Wednesday night's game four, so come out and support the 'Dogs as they hit the road for what will be a key game.
