Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs lost a tough 3-2 decision to the Oshawa Generals in Oshawa on Friday, ending their season with a hard fought 4-1 series loss to Oshawa.

The first period saw Oshawa score first just prior to the midpoint of the frame to make it a 1-0 game. Ryan Strome would answer back for the IceDogs with just over a minute to go in the period, scoring on the powerplay to make it a 1-1 game. Unfortunately for the IceDogs, Oshawa would come right back with a goal of their own to retake the lead 2-1 after one. Shots after one were 8-5 Oshawa.

The second period would see Oshawa extend their lead, scoring six minutes in to make it a 3-1 game. The IceDogs would continue to battle however and Carter Verhaeghe would strike to bring the IceDogs back within one at 3-2 with 1:45 remaining in the second. That would be the score headed into the intermission as Oshawa continued to outshoot the IceDogs 21-14.

The IceDogs would give it everything they had in the third, killing off three penalties to keep it within one, but despite fighting until the final seconds, they could not find the equalizer, falling by the same 3-2 score. Final shots were 35-20 Oshawa.

The entire IceDogs organization would like to thank all their fans for another terrific season of IceDogs hockey! While it may not have ended exactly the way we all would have hoped, it was another great year and we have you the fans to thank for that. So thank you all once again and we look forward to seeing you at the rink again in the fall!
