Worcester IceCats News Release

WORCESTER, MA - The Worcester IceCats of the American Hockey League (AHL) today received word from the League offices in Springfield, MA, that rookie defenseman Barret Jackman has been named to the AHL's 2001-2002 All-Rookie Team.

Voted on by members of the media from AHL cities and by fellow players, Jackman becomes the first IceCat to be bestowed with such honors. The League officially began recognizing the best rookies by position with the All-Rookie Team during the 1996-97 season.

Selected by the St. Louis Blues with their first choice, 17th overall in the 1999 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft, Jackman has recorded one goal, 11 assists and a plus/minus rating of +15 in 68 games: 68(1/11/12)+15. Throughout the season, his plus/minus rating has been among the best on the IceCats squad, in the field of AHL defensemen and all AHL rookies. The 21-year-old has established himself as a solid punishing body-checker, registering a team-high 253 penalty minutes. Jackman hails from Trail, British Columbia.

Other members of the 2001-2002 AHL All-Rookie Team include Tyler Arnason (Forward-Norfolk Admirals), Ron Hainsey (Defense-Quebec Citadelles), Andy Hilbert (Forward-Providence Bruins), Cory Larose (Forward-Houston Aeros) and Michael Leighton (Goaltender-Norfolk Admirals)

The IceCats are in Springfield tonight at 7:00 PM. Worcester's next home games are tomorrow night against the Lowell Lock Monsters and Saturday the 30th versus the Providence Bruins. Both games begin at 7:35 PM.
