The St. John's IceCaps are proud to congratulate IceCaps Governor and Chief Operating Officer Glenn Stanford on his recent election to the Newfoundland and Labrador Hockey Hall of Fame.
Mr. Stanford has spent the past 20 years managing and directing the business operations of four professional hockey franchises and related properties, including two Newfoundland-based American Hockey League clubs, the IceCaps and St. John's Maple Leafs (AHL). In this role, the St. John's native also led the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL) and Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL) to league championships.
A four-time American Hockey League award winner, Mr. Stanford was presented the James Hendy Award as the league's top executive twice (2002 and 2012) and the Thomas Ebright Award for lifelong contribution to the AHL in 2005. Mr. Stanford also received the Ken McKenzie Award in 1997 for outstanding promotion of the AHL in St. John's.
"Glenn Stanford has made a tremendous contribution to the hockey community in this province and beyond, as a leader within the American Hockey League," said Danny Williams, IceCaps President and CEO. "I have worked with Glenn for many years from the Baby Leafs to the IceCaps, and experienced firsthand his passion for the game and his commitment to giving fans a top notch professional hockey experience. He is well-deserving to be recognized as a Builder within the Hockey Hall of Fame and I thank him for his dedication to sport throughout the years."
Mr. Stanford will be inducted in the builders category during a banquet scheduled for Saturday, June 14 at the Albatross Hotel in Gander. Others slated for induction include players Clobie Collins, J.C. Garneau and John Slaney; builder Marv Ryder and official Leo Rose.
A standout athlete, Mr. Stanford is also a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Hall of Fame as a player.
