IceCaps, Purolator Feed Those in Need with 3,500 Pounds of Food
February 14, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
The St. John's IceCaps, in conjunction with Purolator, are proud to announce that Sunday's Purolator Shuts Out Hunger food drive resulted in 3,500 pounds of food being collected to support the Community Food Sharing Association.
Fans were asked to bring non-perishable food items to last Sunday's game at Mile One Centre against the Connecticut Whale and they responded, donating 3,200 pounds of food.
In addition, Purolator donated 100 pounds of food for each goal the IceCaps scored, adding another 300 pounds of food to bring the total to 3,500.
"I'm quite pleased this partnership with Purolator has been so helpful to our community and proud that our fans showed the true giving spirit of Newfoundland and Labrador," said Danny Williams, President and Chief Executive Officer of the St. John's IceCaps.
"This type of partnership proves that great things can be accomplished when business and the community come together for a worthwhile cause."
Stephen Noseworthy, District Manager for Purolator, Newfoundland and Labrador concurred, saying: "It is truly remarkable to see what positive results we can achieve when we all work together in support of the community."
The IceCaps and Purolator will join forces again on April 14, prior to the IceCaps game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, for the second of two Shuts Out Hunger initiatives.
Last year, the Community Food Sharing Association and its 56 member agencies provided support to nearly 32,000 clients in need of food. All proceeds from the food drives will support the Community Food Sharing Association, which is fighting to end hunger by providing food and resources to those in need in throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
On Friday, the IceCaps embark on a six-game, 14-day road trip with stops in Manchester (twice), Portland, Connecticut, Toronto and Hamilton. Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at stjohnsicecaps.com and on 930 AM, or watch online at ahllive.com.
