ROLLIN' ROLLIN' ROLLIN': Indy jumped into a tie for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings after securing six of six possible points with wins against Youngstown, Chicago and Cedar Rapids last week. Trailing Youngstown 3-1 midway through the third period on Wednesday, the Ice rattled off three consecutive goals capped off by Tyler Pham's game-winner in overtime to fuel a 4-3 victory over the Phantoms. Jason Salvaggio (2G), Tyler Andrew (G, A), Denis Smirnov (2A) and Joseph Sullivan (2A) all had two-point efforts to lead Indy past Chicago 4-1 on Saturday, while Samu Perhonen returned between the pipes and stopped 27 of 28 shots. Indy finished off the weekend with a 3-1 win over Cedar Rapids on Sunday as Andrew, Smirnov and Jacob Pritchard connected for goals, while Jason Pawloski stopped 16 of 17 in net.
ST. ANDREW: Tyler Andrew continues to display more than his size as the 6-5 forward is riding a three-game point streak with five points (2G, 3A) in the stretch. The Ferris State University recruit has recently found his offensive groove during his first USHL season, recording nine points (4G, 5A) in his past seven games.
DENIS THE MENACE: Despite being one of the youngest players in the USHL, age has not slowed down Ice winger Denis Smirnov. The 1997 birth year-forward has 11 points (4G, 7A) in his past 11 games and 13 points (4G, 9A) total in his first USHL season. Smirnov joined the Ice roster prior to the 2013-2014 season from the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Jr. Knights hockey program.
NOVEMBER RAIN: Indy is coming off a "November to Remember" as the team was 6-1-1 for the month which included victories over Western Conference powerhouses Omaha and Sioux City. The only regulation loss during the month came from a 5-4 road decision against the Sioux Falls Stampede back on 11/22/13. As a whole, the Ice has won four consecutive games and is 9-1-1 in their past 11 games, while outscoring their opponents 44-27 during the 11-game run.
PLAYER DRIZZLE: Jason Salvaggio has six points in his last five games...Scott Conway is third in the league in shots (76) and has 12 points in his last nine games...Aidan Muir has six points in his last six games...Tyler Pham has four points in his past four games...Joseph Sullivan has three points in his last two games...Austin Kosack is tied for third among league defensemen in plus-minus rating (+14)...Jason Pawloski is 8-1-1 in his last ten starts in net.
TEAM SPRINGS: Indy leads the league in overall shots against (474) and shots against per game (24.95)...The Ice has outscored opponents 29-15 in the third period...Indy is third in the league on the penalty kill at home (91.9%) and overall (87.4%)...The Ice is 7-2-3 against the Eastern Conference...Indiana has registered 40+ shots in nine games this season.
COLLEGE 101: Kevin Goumas (09-10) registered four points (2G, 2A), while Casey DeSmith (09-11) won twice and turned back 63 of 65 shots for New Hampshire in their weekend sweep of Colorado College....Miami University earned three points over the weekend in two games against Bemidji State and received 13 points (7G, 6A) from Ice alums Blake Coleman (09-11), Sean Kuraly (10-12), Alex Wideman (09-11), Alex Gacek (11-12) and Max Cook (08-10).
