Ice Pilots Strafe Sea Wolves 5-2 As Road Trip Draws To A Close

BILOXI, MS - The Pensacola Ice Pilots defeated the Mississippi Sea Wolves 5-2 at the Pensacola Civic Center on Wednesday evening as the Sea Wolves closed out a 10-game road trip.

Pensacola got out to an early lead when Konstantin Kalmikov deflected Jean-Claude Sawyer's shot from the point past Sea Wolves goaltender Morgan Cey on the power play at 5:04. Just over three minutes later, Brian MacGregor capitalized on a giveaway and raced down the left wing and beat Cey high to the blocker side to give Pensacola a 2-0 lead at 8:07. Mark Hurtubise cut the Ice Pilots lead to one with his sixth of the season coming on a slap shot that beat Pensacola goaltender Cam Ellsworth over the blocker at 10:59.

Kalmikov would regain the two-goal lead for the Ice Pilots with his fourth goal of the season at 6:25 of the second period.

Mike Sgroi notched his 10th goal of the season on the Ice Pilots' first of two penalty shots in the third period at 3:44, when he cut out wide to the right, drew Cey to the ice and fired into the partially-vacated net. Mississippi would get cut the Pensacola lead to two when Michael Couch scored his first goal of the season on a one-timer from Gio Flamminio on the power play at 6:28. Bryan Esner would seal the scoring with a penalty shot goal for Pensacola at 12:20.

Morgan Cey made 34 saves on 39 shots to earn the loss, and Mississippi was 1-for-3 on the power play.
