Ice Nuts Sign Former MSU Assistant Captain

East Lansing, MI – The Lansing Ice Nuts of the International Independent Hockey League are pleased to announce the signing of former Michigan State Spartan Damon Whitten to their roster. Whitten, 26, played four seasons with the Spartans from 1997-98 through 2000-01. In 166 games wearing the green and white, the 6' 0", 185-lb forward registered 75-pts, scoring 35 goals with 257 penalty minutes.

Following his collegiate career, Whitten played two seasons in the East Coast Hockey League with the Greenville Grrrowl (64 games) and the Arkansas Riverblades (67 games).

In his first game played with the Ice Nuts on Sunday, December 14, the Brighton native assisted on Adam Rivers first goal of the game late in the first period and picked up 13 minutes in penalties which included a toe-to-toe battle with Northern Michigan Predator Joe Pace.

Whitten will play part-time role for the Ice Nuts due to his previous commitment with MSU to provide radio broadcasts.

The Lansing Ice Nuts are in action this weekend with home dates on Friday and Saturday versus the Soo City Mavericks and Sunday versus the Ohio Valley Ice Cats. Game time for all three games is 7:30PM at Munn Arena. Discount ticket vouchers are available at businesses around East Lansing, Lansing and Okemos.
