HOME AND ROAD: The Ice earned four points over the holiday weekend with a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Steel on New Year's Eve at Conseco Fieldhouse and a come from behind 4-3 overtime win over the Waterloo Black Hawks Saturday night in Waterloo, IA
12/31/09 vs. CHI- The Ice improved to 5-4-3 all-time at Conseco Fieldhouse as newcomer Blake Coleman led the attack with a pair of goals in the win. Kevin Goumas, Justin Agosta and Nick Bailen also lit the lamp, while Brian Ferlin and Nic Dowd each had two assists. Casey DeSmith was the winner in net.
1/2/10 at WAT- Antti Roppo scored his second of the evening in overtime to lift Indiana to victory. Nic Dowd and Max Cook added markers, while Shane Berschbach handed out two assists. Casey DeSmith posted the win between the pipes.
TRAINING ROOM: The Ice has been hit by the "injury bug" as goaltender Cab Morris, defensemen Taylor Boldt and Nick Mattson and forward Frankie DeAugustine are all currently sidelined with injuries. Affiliate defenseman Jarrod Rabey and emergency goaltender Louis Puig have helped as capable fill-ins.
ROLE REVERSAL: After starting the season 3-4-1 in their first eight games on the road, the Ice has won three consecutive road games and is 5-3-0 in their last eight games away from Indianapolis. On the flip side, Indy began the year 6-1-0 at home, but is just 2-3-0 in their last five home contests.
HOT STICKS: Antti Roppo leads all Ice players in goals (15) and multi-goal games (5) and went (+4) in the two wins last week....Nic Dowd carries a three-game point streak (G, 4A) into this week's action...Justin Agosta is riding a four-game point streak...Casey DeSmith was 2-0-0 with a 2.94 GAA and a.918 SV% in the two games last week...The Ice remains the USHL's top penalty killing unit (86.7%).
ALL-STARS IN INDY: The Ice and the city of Indianapolis are hosting the 2010 USHL All-Star Game on Tuesday, January 26th from Pepsi Coliseum. The two-day festival will also feature a USHL All-Star Gala on Monday, January 25th with special guests Jimmy Carson and Scott Howson. Carson played ten NHL seasons and was part of the famous Wayne Gretzky trade to LA in 1988, while Howson is the General Manager of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets and a former Indianapolis Checkers forward.
