Toledo Royal Knights News Release

Toledo, OH. The ABA Toledo Ice gained its first victory in at the SeaGate Centre in its second home game of the season. The team (1-2) struggled out of the gate, but bounced back to dominate the Ohio Aviators 110-99 before a large and very enthusiastic crowd. Jamel Staten led the Ice with 33 points while Lionel Armstead, a graduate of Emanuel Baptist High School, who played at West Virginia University, posted 22. "I was feeling good out there," Staten said. "I got to the free throw line, I got a few easy baskets and that just opened up my game and I played with a lot of energy."

"It feels good. I feel like as a team we picked it up from last night (a loss to the Lake Erie Rockers)," Armstead said. ""We came back but lost, but our intensity picked up in the second half and it built over into today."

The Ice, coached by Melvin Newbern, a Scott High School graduate, played Tuesday night against the Detroit Wheels. The Wheels defeated the Ice 119-109 on November 14th. "That was our first game of the season; everybody was a little shaky the first time that we were in game-like situations,"Newbern said. "We've got a couple more games under our belt and coming off this win, I think we can get another one.
