
Ice Flyers Overcome Early Two-Goal Deficit, Win 5-3

FAYETTEVILLE, NC. (January 10, 2014) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers headed into tonight's matchup with the Fayetteville FireAntz looking to get back in the win column and did just than with three-point nights from John Dunbar and Brett Lutes in a 5-3 win.
Fayetteville jumped out to a 2-0 after Derek Elliott scored two goals in 28 seconds, the second coming just 2:18 into the game. The Ice Flyers began their comeback when Dunbar sped up the right wing boards and passed the puck over to Lutes, who had situated himself in the crease. Lutes redirected the puck past Peter Skoggard with 10:46 left in the first. Adam Pawlick picked up the secondary assist on the goal.
The Ice Flyers continued their efforts to claw their way back in the second period. It took nearly 17 minutes into the second period but Corey Banfield banged in a rebound with 3:07 left in the period. Justin Alonzo and Podge Turnbull assisted on the tying goal. The Ice Flyers took their first lead of the game when Ryan Salvis potted a power play goal with just 36 second left in the second. Shaun Arvai and Banfield had the helpers. Then, with 11 seconds left in the period, Lutes picked up his second goal of the game to make it 4-2. Dunbar and Bennett Schneider assisted on the tally.
Kyle McNeil scored unassisted for Fayetteville 6:54 into the third to cut the Ice Flyers' lead down to 4-3. The score remained the same until Dunbar put the final nail in Fayetteville's coffin with a goal that came with only 3:05 left. Lutes and Salvis had the helpers.
John Griggs stopped 25 of the FireAntz's 28 shots and got his fifth win of the season. Dunbar was named the third star and Lutes was the first.
The Ice Flyers finish off their road trip tomorrow night with the second game in a back-to-back series with the Fayetteville FireAntz. Puck drop is slated for 6:05 p.m.
