Mississippi RiverKings News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Justin Fox tallied two goals as the Mississippi RiverKings (16-9-2) fell to Huntsville Havoc (15-11-2) for the first time in regulation this season by the score of 4-2 in Huntsville on Friday night.
After a scoreless first period, the Havoc struck first. Stuart Stefan deflected a Justin Fox pass over the blocker of Matt Krahn 6:01 into the middle frame to give Huntsville the 1-0 lead. Then, with Andrew Randazzo in the penalty box for interference, Fox tallied a goal of his own on a wrist shot from the high slot to give the Havoc a 2-0 edge headed into the second intermission.
The Havoc wasted little time extending their lead. Fox notched his second goal of the game on the power play with a one-time shot past Krahn give the Havoc a 3-0 lead on a five-on-three. Thirteen seconds later, Ray Ortiz deflected a Dominic Osman pass through the legs of Krahn for the Havoc's third power-play goal of the night and a 4-0 lead.
The RiverKings battled back four minutes later as Matt Harrington's shot beat Kevin Genoe between the legs to cut the deficit to 4-1. After tempers flared in the third period leading to a Corey Fulton misconduct and a Tyler Sheldrake game-misconduct, the RiverKings pushed back. Late in the frame, Paul Clancy netted his second goal of the year from Leo Thomas to bring the RiverKings within two, but they could not finish the comeback, falling to Huntsville 4-2.
The RiverKings return to the ice tomorrow night to take on the Mississippi Surge at 7:05 p.m. with all the action airing live on Sports 56 and 87.7FM.
The RiverKings are "Packing the House" for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on Belhaven University Pack the House Night on Friday, January 17. Blue, Gold and Red-level tickets are $5 off, with $3 of every ticket purchased benefiting St. Jude. For more information, contact the RiverKings at 662-342-1755.
