
Ice Flyers Lose to Surge 5-2

PENSACOLA, FL. (December 28, 2013) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers hosted their rivals the Mississippi Surge but, unfortunately, came out on the losing end of a 5-2 scoreline.
The Surge jumped to a big lead in the first period with goals by Bill Baker, Kyle Kudroch, and Jordan Peddle that put the Ice Flyers down 3-0 just 14:33 into the game. At that point Johnny Griggs was pulled in favor of Ross MacKinnon. MacKinnon stopped the only shot he saw in the first period.
The Ice Flyers pressured the Surge during the second period and finally broke through with a goal by Corey Banfield. Adam Pawlick and Steve Bergin assisted on the tally. Immediately following the goal, John Dunbar got tied up with Mississippi's Bill Baker and dragged Baker to the ice. Both players received two minutes for Roughing.
The Ice Flyers continued to fight back and struck again with a shorthanded goal by Keegan Flaherty. Banfield had the lone assist on the goal. Mississippi's Mike Lysyj made it 4-2 less than four minutes later then Kudroch struck again with a shorthanded, empty netter to make it 5-2 with 2:42 remaining.
Griggs stopped five of eight shots and MacKinnon stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced. Griggs picked up the loss.
The Ice Flyers' next game is tomorrow at 3:05 p.m. as the host the Louisiana IceGators.
