Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Pensacola Ice Flyers got a goal from Nick Lazorko 8:08 into overtime to beat the Mississippi RiverKings, 3-2, Friday night at the Landers Center. The series is tied 1-1 and the teams will play a decisive Game 3 tomorrow in Pensacola.

Facing elimination the Ice Flyers took a 1-0 lead early in the first period when Nick McParland fired a one-timer from the slot on a pass from Brett Lutes. It came at 2:15 and was McParland's third goal of the series. That early lead for the Ice Flyers lasted less than four minutes, as the RiverKings pulled even at 5:13. Matt Whitehead started a rush down the left wing and he rolled a shot on goal which was stopped by Max Strang. Leo Thomas followed up and sent the puck back to the slot, where Matt Harrington fired into an open net to tie the game at one.

The game remained scoreless through most of the second period until the Ice Flyers received their first full power play of the series. With Linden Bahm in the penalty box for interference, Jon Puskar redirected a pass from McParland with 11 seconds remaining in the penalty and 1:11 to play in the second to give the Ice Flyers a 2-1 lead heading to the third.

The RiverKings wasted little time pulling even to start the third period as Bryon Paulazzo tapped in a pass from Harrington just 26 seconds into the third. Paulazzo stepped free in the slot to get a shot on Strang, which he stopped, but Harrington picked up the rebound and sent it across to Paulazzo, who dove to tap it into the open net to tie the game at two. The rest of the third period was scoreless so the game went to overtime.

The RiverKings carried play to start overtime, but at 8:08 Lazorko beat Peter Di Salvo with a wrist shot from the right circle to win the game for the Ice Flyers.
